Our Story
Our Start & History
Started by Robert Fumo as Robert Fumo Construction Limited—an Ontario Home Warranty licensed home builder—over 35 years ago, the company was built on dedication, hard work, and a commitment to quality. In 2000, Robert’s son Chris joined his father, bringing with him valuable experience in both the building and computing industries. This combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern knowledge helped the business grow stronger and more adaptable.
By 2016, the company transitioned to Lilac Homes Inc., the name it is proudly recognized by today. From the very beginning, and through the many decades of combined knowledge and learned experience, the team has designed and built a wide variety of unique, one-of-a-kind custom homes. Each project reflects both skill and creativity, resulting in homes that stand out for their quality, style, and lasting value.

Our Founder
Robert Fumo
1937-2012
Robert was a resident of the Barrie area for more than 50 years. During that time, he refined his craft and honed his expertise in construction, earning a reputation for dedication and excellence. His projects included new home construction, commercial developments, and property investments across Barrie, Collingwood, and the surrounding areas, leaving a lasting mark on the community.

Beyond his work, Robert was a man deeply devoted to his family and widely respected for his generosity. His abilities, his strength—both physical and mental—along with his mentoring spirit and kindness, left an impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him. These lessons and values were passed down to a privileged few, shaping not only the future of the company but also the lives of many around him.

Our learned Approach
A Collaborative Building Experience
A custom home begins with understanding the property, the design and the people who will live there.
Some clients arrive with architectural drawings. Others begin with one of our home designs or a collection of ideas. We can work with either approach, adapting the design and construction process to the requirements of the project.
1
Personal involvement
Direct communication and access to the builder throughout the project.
2
Design Flexibility
Work from your architectural plans, modify one of our designs or develop something new.
3
Experienced Team
Established relationships with skilled trades and suppliers who understand the requirements of custom construction.
4
Construction Management
Planning, coordination and attention to the construction decisions that influence the finished result.
